Kindle Paperwhite 12th gen Review
Today I'm going to review Kindle Paperwhite 12th generation.
It's a basic model with 16gb storage released on October 16th in 2024.
Sleep Screen
The basic model has advertisements on the sleep screen.
If you care about it, you can remove them by paying some money.
But the cost of removing advertisements and a device is quite similar to Kindle Paperwhite Signature which doesn't have advertisements on it.
I think you should consider buying Kindle Paperwhite Signature, then.
Dictionary
It has widipedia search and translation function like Kindle app.
The translation is good enough to understand a story.
Kindle has a good battery life even with WIFI on, so the translation function is really useful to people who aren't English native speakers.
On Kindle app, we cannot choose what dictionary we're going to use, but we can on Kindle device.
The basic dictionary is New Oxford's but I prefer Merriam-Webster's.
It's easier to look up meanings and pronunciation.
Vocabulary Builder
Another function I really like is vocabulary builder only Kindle device has.
Kindle automatically makes flashcards with words you looked up.
Actually, this is why I bought Kindle.
And Kindle device is made only for Kindle, so it's faster than any other e-readers based on Android OS.
Disadvantages
- We cannot use Audible while reading, even though we can on Android or IOS Kindle app.
- I don't think it's small enough to use on the subway, especially on rush-hour. If you care a lot about it, I think Kindle Basic is better.
- The power button is on the right side of the bottom, which I sometimes touch because I put my hand there when I read. I wish it were on the top.
